Isn’t she amazing!!

d5147527lHi Bloggers,

I have had so much fun researching my PRP and creating my Powerpoint presentation. I have tried to do one that is interesting and a bit arty.

Don’t you just love the Statue of Liberty in New York? I think she is so magestic. This impressive statue is the most famous symbol of New York. It was made in France and then shipped to New York and unveiled in 1886. This amazing statue is seen around the world as a symbol of freedom

Red Balloon’s CRAY-ZEE!

Hi Bloggers!

As part of our inquiry unit “What are you listening to?” we were randomly put into groups with different roles to represent the music industry and how it works. My group consisted of Iky, Smiley18 and Sasuke.

We decided to call our record label “Red Balloon Records” because Sasuke suggested balloon and I said red. Our group name for the artists was Cray-zee. I was the lyricist so I created all the lyrics for our song. Our single is called ” Year 7! “. Iky and Smiley18 performed the song and recorded it on Audacity. Sasuke created the video montage, Iky all the artistic aspects and Smiley was our CEO.

This was an interesting task because we had to all work together as a team and agree on what to do. No simple task! I can imagine how it is in the boardroom of some of these big companies when major decisions and directions for projects are being decided!

BACK AGAIN !!

Hi Bloggers,

It has been a really busy time for me and I haven’t had alot of time to write. It was the final performance of “Hansel and Gretel” on Saturday night. I had such an amazing time and met lots of fabulous new people. It was really sad to finish the season and everyone goes their separate ways. WE HAD SO MUCH FUN !!!!

I would like to thank everyone who supported me and gave me this wonderful opportunity. I would especially like to thank Christie and everyone at the State Opera of South Australia- you are all awesome. I would also like to thank the fantastic staff and chaperones at the Festival Theatre.

It was one of the most incredible things that I’ve ever done. Thankyou to everyone who came to see me (opera tickets are very expensive but LOTS of friends and family came) and celebrated after the final performance with me. A special thankyou for the presents and kind wishes too. I LOVE YOU ALL !!!

Watch this space there are lots of incredibly exciting things in the pipeline!!!!

Luv Honk!

PS We had an amazing concert on Sunday at St Johns in Halifax Street.
THANKYOU!!!!! The acoustics in the church are incredible. What a STUPENDOUS weekend that we won’t forget in a hurry!!!

LAB ON LEGS!

Hi Bloggers!

Today all of my class participated in a program called “Lab on Legs”. It is a CISRO program that teaches students about chemistry and helps to prepare them for science in high school. Our teacher was David. He was really cool and funny too!! He explained to us that nerds are awesome!!! YAY!! I think that I am a nerd in Music, English and Art!!  We worked with partners. My partner for the activities was Lolly.  I really enjoyed all the experiments that I was involved in but my favourite was probably the “Indicator Mystery” where you had  to use mystery liquids in a tray with either lemon juice, water, Sodium Bicarb and Sodium Hydroxide to create different coloured liquids. Then you had to write the results down on a sheet to stick in your science journal. I thought it was fantastic!!

I think that everyone would really enjoy this course because it is both engaging and interesting. It never got boring!!

PRP NEW YORK ♥

Hi Bloggers,

As part of our Term 4 High Flyer Programme we are required to do a Personal Research Project about a topic that we are interested in.  I have chosen to do mine on the city of  NEW YORK.

I chose this city because I have always been very interested in it.  It is very multicultural,  has an amazing world of arts and it is always in the news. Many famous people lived and live there. Some of the world’s most famous tourist attractions are in New York.

I would love to see the Empire State Building,  go to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty, go and see lots of shows on Broadway,  go to the Met (opera) at the Lincoln Centre,  go to the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art,  go to all the famous department stores and trendy places like Greenwich Village and SoHo,  go to the Guggenheim Museum… I would love to go ANYWHERE AND EVERYWHERE !!!!!  I would like to eat a hotdog, have breakfast in a diner, eat bagels and ride in a famous yellow taxi that you have to hail by almost jumping in front of it!!!

One of my Mum’s best friends lives in New York  and we would like to visit him soon.  My best friend and his family visited New York earlier this year and he took some of the most amazing photos of the city- that inspired me even more!  I think that there is so much to do in this vibrant and bustling city.  I have lots of books about New York  with some awesome photos.  My Mum’s friend sends us lots of arty photos too so I would love to see it with my own eyes and take in the excitement of this great place.

There are lots of things that I would like to find out more about for example:

1. Who built the Statue of Libertynew yorky ?

2. What is the history of Broadway ?

3. Who discovered New York and who were the first New Yorkers ?

This is going to be a very exciting project and I can’t wait to find out lots of fascinating details about the city that never sleeps.

Book Review- French Kissmas

Hi Bloggers,

Recently I read a book called French Kissmas by Cathy Hapka.  It is about a girl called Nicolle who goes to Paris to create a promotional video about the S.A.S.S program and to spend New Year in the City of Light with her friend Annike.  She falls in love along the way with Luc who she’d  met last year when she went to Paris for the first time. There is also the relationship with her new buddie Mike who she is  really close to.   With a backdrop of twinkling lights on the Champs-Elysées and Parisian Christmas carols,  it’s going to be difficult for Nicolle to deny the romance around her.  This book documents the emotional journey of her relationships with Luc and Mike.

I really enjoyed this book because it had a fast moving story with lots of description as well as characters that are really easy to relate to.  It has many cultural aspects as well.  liked reading  about all the places that they visit and film in.  I think that this series is great for girls 13-15. Anyone younger might find it either too difficult to follow or a bit too mature.  I got this book from the library at my Mum’s school but I’m sure it is available in most public libraries.  I would rate this book 4 stars. It is overall very enjoyable!! :)

GETTING READY FOR HIGH SCHOOL !!

Hi Bloggers,

It is so exciting with the end of the year drawing near and we are getting all the things organised for High School. It is wonderful and I am so full of anticipation. I have been to several open days at my new school and they have been really great because not only do you get to see the school on a normal school day and see all the terrific things they do. You also get to know your way around the campus.

We went recently to an open day and saw the music, science class, art class and drama class in action. The facilitiies are excellent and they do some really amazing things. My new school has an artists in residence programme, that means a specialist in one area lets say pottery comes in and  helps teach the students. It is awesome what the students produce and the skills they acquire. I can’t wait.  We also visited the big new library which also has lots of up to date technology.

We went to a subject information day to help me decide what I would choose. I met all the different staff and they explained to us about their subject. It is so hard to choose as they all look so good. I will be doing German of course and the teacher was really lovely and he comes from Germany. We will be going on a trip to Europe/ Germany when I am in year 9, so that will be a wonderful experience.

On my last visit we had an interview with the principal of the school and he was really lovely-kind, gentle and very supportive. I felt so understood and excited at the thought of being a part of this wonderful team. Then we met the head of the middle school and he was really nice too and actually very funny. He has been there for a long time (over 30 years) so I think he has alot of experience and is very wise. He is very approachable and friendly.

To top off a lovely day we had afternnon tea in the courtyard in a sort of fancy tent. It was a great day and I met lots of new people and a few nice students too. I saw 3 of my friends who are students there and I think I am going to settle in very nicely. I even have a bus buddy and can get on the bus outside my house so that’s handy and my Mum works near by so I can come home with her lots!! I CAN’T WAIT!

Next step is to go and get all the uniform things,  Mum will make an appointment and they will fit me. The uniform is really lovely… except the school shoes!

Hi Bloggers!

As part of our literacy contract we had to create 6 Synonyms Poems. Synonyms are words that have the same meaning. For example: Sad (melancholy). Here are mine:

Fantasy,
Illusion, mirage, delusion, daydreams,
and a fantasy is not what it seems.

Pain,
Sting, ache, anguish, strain,
Pain hurts and will always remain.

Speaking,

Announce, jabber, gossip, exclaim,

Shout out loud if you want to claim fame!

Good,

Wonderful, marvellous, exquisite, outstanding,

Good is an aeroplane when its landing.

Song,

Sing anything unless you’re a toad!

Back to School !!

Hi Bloggers,

Today was the first day of the last term I will be spending at primary school. It was nice to see everyone again  and get off to an exciting start but it was also hard after such a fantastic two week holiday.

The first weekend was amazing as we had a huge party to launch the new State Opera/Swell Productions show for next year. WATCH THIS SPACE !!!! More news about that soon. I had such a great time with all my friends and after a celebration lunch we had an extended “Glee” party.

What a way to start the holidays!

In the first week we went to Melbourne to see the Tim Burton Exhibition. It was so awesome, I couldn’t believe it . There were some great exhibits from all of his movies-Batman,  Beetlejuice,  Alice in Wonderland,  Edward Scissorhands,  Planet of the Apes,  The Nightmare Before Christmas and heaps of others.  They had all the costumes and some of the props from Alice in Wonderland-it was incredible.  I learnt all about his early days when he did an apprenticeship at Disney Studios.  I really loved it, it was well thought out and put together. It came from the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art in New York.

We also went to see the European Masters exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria.  It was great to see the incredible art from such famous artists as Degas, Renoir, Tischbein, Monet,Paul Klee, Spitzweg and lots of others that I didn’t know before the exhibition.  It was also really well explained and I learnt so many new German words as they had these special  plaques for school  kids!!

We stayed in a quirky hotel on Toorak Road and went EVERYWHERE!!! on the trams which I really love.  We did some shopping(I found some wonderful shops that specialise in vintage inspired clothes) and took in the great vibe of Melbourne.  We went back to Brunswick Street  which I love and also discovered a new area Chapel Street which had some beautiful shops.

After Melbourne I had a bit of a rest and watched movies and caught up with some lovely friends. I slept in alot and read alot!!  Then it was time to go to the most incrediblte thing I’ve ever done at Carclew- CLAYMATION!!!  Johnathon Daw who does “Shaun the Sheep”, “Timmy Time” and worked on great movies such as “Mary and Max” and “Harvey Crumpet” was our teacher. I went with a friend of mine and we made our own movie using MACS.  It is so time consuming -every move is a different frame.  It took us 3 days to make a 1 minute movie!!  We had to make the characters and plan the movie etc. It was incredibly awesome!!!

On the last Friday of the holidays I went to the Pepper St Gallery with Sunbat  to see the local art work exhibition. Some of the paintings were really good, there was even one of a gorgeous duck!!  No swans ….HONK!!!!

I  have been busy with “Hansel and Gretel” rehearsals but that all started in September so we are well on the way.  I auditioned to be in the Children’s Chorus of the State Opera of South Australia and got one of  only 12 places for girls.  It has been the most amazing experience.  We will sing 4 performances with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra at the Festival Theatre in November (6,9,11 and 13)   I’m so pumped because it is my first professional opera and I think that I will learn SO much.   My best friend is in it too so that’s an extra bonus.

Tickets are available at  BASS  131 246  -ask about the special prices for children if accompanied by an adult.
